WATCH: How Chennai Volunteers Made 1.7 Lakh Food Boxes In 90 Hours

Over two days, it rained 34 times the normal amount in Chennai. The power and cellphone networks were down and large parts of the city were inundated. The rain didn't look like it would let up, and it didn't for the rest of the week. Amidst this uncertainty, one thing was clear. People needed help.

Food was something that would always be needed, and restaurant owner Santosh decided that this was how he could help. He set about cooking a big batch of food. Surprisingly, despite news, television and cellphone networks all being down, the word got out. Volunteers began arriving in droves to help out. Together, working for straight 90 hours, they cooked, packed and distributed 1.7 lakh boxes of food.

In the time when nothing seemed certain, these 300 people decided to choose hope and action. Watch their inspiring story in this short video.
