At least two people were killed and dozens wounded after a mass shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas late Sunday night.
University Medical Center said it took in 26 patients from the scene, including the two dead. At least 12 of the victims were listed in critical condition. Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center confirmed that it also treated victims but did not offer any details.
Las Vegas Police said one suspect was down but did not elaborate. The agency later said it did not believe there were any other shooters.
The investigation remained active early Monday.
Authorities shut down part of the Las Vegas Strip as they responded to the incident, which happened at the Route 91 Harvest Festival near Mandalay Bay. McCarran International Airport said some flights had been diverted due to the incident. Travelers should expect delays as a result. In addition, police said part of I-15 had been shut down.
Around 40,000 people attended the concert, the AP said.
Jason Aldean was performing when his set was interrupted by the sound of gunfire.
“The concert was going on and we heard what sounded firecrackers going off,” one witness, Megan Kearny, told NBC News. “All of a sudden we heard what sounded like a machine gun and people just started screaming that they were hit and to get down, and about every 20 seconds after that you would hear a round of machine guns, and people just dropping, hundreds of bodies over the ground.”
“The shots just kept coming,” another witness told KLAS.
Aldean and the rest of his team were not injured, Entertainment Tonight reported.
